How to create running objectives and their role in progress? A simple subject but one that can change everything in the way we see running. For me, the objective is a very important notion and setting it regularly contributes to the pleasure we take in running. This is true in sport but also in life in general! Setting goals in running is about moving forward, trying to improve but also seeing the positive and thereby increasing your self-confidence when they are achieved. Running is a reflection of life, many things you will apply to your running practice also work in everyday life!
Running objectives are specific to everyone
All runners must set goals that, if realistic, will be achieved because in running, work always pays! You may find me a little optimistic with this sentence but I always try to see the glass half full! On the other hand, it is necessary to insist on the realistic aspect of an objective to progress in running. Indeed if it is too high you can always try to reach it, but you will surely be disappointed with the result. It must be linked to your level, the time you have to give to running and above all it must motivate you. From there nothing stops you, it will take as long as it takes but with perseverance you will succeed - one of the characteristics of the runner is that he doesn't give up anything!
Some ideas of objectives in running
Whether you are a beginner or a runner for almost 15 years like me, there is no big difference. A good objective is an objective that motivates us, that is realistic compared to our current level. The fact that it motivates us makes it possible to want to go to each training session to reach it. And the fact that it is realistic gives you a chance to achieve it. A goal too high is a sure failure and can be depressing, especially if you keep on failing. It is better to set medium-ambitious objectives that can be achieved in the short term. Then reattach another one and so on. We call it the Little Steps strategy. We move forward one step at a time and another and another... In the long run the progress is enormous!
Being healthy: the benefits of running proven by science It's silly, but starting by reminding people that running and exercise in general is very good for our health is a hidden goal. Who has no interest in their health? Whether you are a performance enthusiast or just a pleasure jogger, there is an objective that is automatically achieved with each outing, that of doing yourself good! And if you doubt it, I suggest you read this article that shows!
Running for 30 minutes in respiratory ease: If there is an initial goal for any beginner in running, it is this one. Because you shouldn't rush the steps! Running for 30 minutes is good, doing it in total respiratory ease is something else. It means mastering fundamental endurance, the basis for long-term progress. Read my article on the subject if you are interested.
Lose weight: Forget all the diets seen and reviewed in magazines, the only one that is effective in the long term is called: SPORT + NUTRITION ! a balanced diet coupled with running, that's all there is to it.
More details on the subject in this article.
Register for your first race: Pin a bib on your t-shirt, a commonplace act for some who have a long history of competition, but a giant step for others! Daring to go is already surpassing yourself and you will surely have a lot of fun! If you are a beginner, find a 5km, it is ideal to start. And above all, take this first competition as a discovery, don't put pressure on yourself. If you like the atmosphere of the competitions from the inside, you will want to come back anyway and you can then train to beat your time!
Include the fractionated in your training: What a great goal for anyone who wants to improve? Fractional training is often scary because it means high intensity training. However, it is one of the best ways to progress and if you are still hesitating, take the plunge and tell me about it and you will surely even get a taste!
Improve your time over 10km: For riders who already have a track record in competition, a time target is always effective. 30″ ? 1′ better? Once again, set yourself a realistic challenge to give yourself the chance to meet it! Analysis of your record race, review of your past training, addition/modification of sessions that may have been missed, preparation of your race plan... Many areas for improvement must exist to enable you to be at your best level on D-day.
Finish a marathon: The grail for many runners but beware the road is long before you can claim to go through with this challenge. I ran and finished my first marathon after 13 years of running... Of course I was running short distances at first, but I still waited until I felt physically ready and very motivated for this marathon challenge before I started.
These are just a few examples, creating objectives in running has no limit other than your motivation to find them! ????
The best objective is the one that makes you dream
and that will make you proud when it's done! This does not mean that you will succeed in achieving your goal every time, of course. But as I say in this article, the path is also or even more important than the goal. To have a goal that motivates us is to have fun every day training and surpassing ourselves. And in the event that it doesn't work in the end? It's like in life in general, we analyze why it didn't work and roll up our sleeves to try to do better the next time! With time, we understand more and more things and realize that we are able to move mountains with motivation and a well-designed training!
Bonus: Daily objectives to motivate yourself
Your objective, your challenge, your pleasure!
I hope that the importance of running objectives no longer holds any secrets for you because it is your turn! With a good goal, good training and motivation, you will enjoy running and... Take up this challenge you have set for yourself! Because reaching your goal is a magical feeling! We feel stronger psychologically to face everyday life. We develop a positive state of mind, a fighting spirit that will be reflected in all aspects of life!
It sounds beautiful but that's how I see my life thanks to running and the goals I can set for myself. If it works for me and for many of those who read me, no reason why it doesn't work for you, no? ????
